Meditation

Just like the body, our minds also desperately need the opportunity to rest, detoxify and reset. Sleep is one way the the mind can achieve this, however only if we reach a state of deep sleep, which many of us don't on a regular basis! Meditation has so many amazing benefits, including lowering stress levels, increasing our capacity for memory retention, concentration and focus, as well as allowing us to create a stronger relationship within ourselves, connecting with the place of peace and calm that resides within, our natural state. The meditation experience that we have can often be enhanced by being guided, and so we welcome you to join us for a huge range of meditation practices that suit your needs and level of experience. Perhaps commit to a daily practice for a week and see how you feel by day 7...Enjoy!

5 Minute classes…

The ultimate practice to drop into daily, or even several times a day! Stop, drop, and take just 6 minutes to switch ease-fully into a mindset of gratitude. Sometimes seemingly more difficult than other times, however, this simple meditation can show us just how much the mind can hold the reigns over our emotions and outlook on life, and also, how consequently we too can choose whether to succumb to the workings of the mind, or rather seek the higher path and choose which thoughts we allow ourselves to listen to. Those which promote feelings of gratitude are so very powerful and can flip our perspective in an instant. Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and enjoy!

Take your Yoga practice to a new height with this short + simple Sama Vritti Pranayama exercise guided by our founder Amy Leonard-King, that will in just a few minutes help to calm + stabilise the mind. Sama (meaning same) Vritti (meaning fluctuations) Pranayama is an even fluctuation of breath in and out of the body and it can be done anywhere, anytime. Pranayama itself is a power yogic practice and when combined with Yoga asana it can take your Yoga practice to the next level.

Yoga Corner Melbourne CBD Founder + Teacher Amy Leonard-King shares this simple, beginner-level six-minute guided meditation to help you find some quiet and space in your day. Try it at home, on public transport or at work.

Yoga Corner Founder Amy Leonard-King guides a five minute seated meditation that you can do any time, anywhere, to help bring about some stillness to your busy life.

Ever wondered why 'Om'? Enjoy Amy's brief description and quick practice of chanting Om, to get you dropped straight into the 'Bhav' - or 'divine mood'. Enjoy!

Hailing from the Jivamukti Yoga method, this mantra has a rich history, and many simple translations, however the one that has caught more attention through it's depth of insight comes from Amy's teacher's Sharon Gannon + David Life and reads: 'May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts words and actions of my own life, contribute in some way, to that happiness and to that freedom for all.' Enjoy!

This mantra spoke to Amy the first time she heard it - have you had the same experience? Hearing something and feeling as if you have known it already somehow? Join Amy to experience the deep feeling of connecting with your hearts deepest desires in this beautiful mantra practice. Enjoy 🙂

10 minute CLASSES…

In this 10-minute guided meditation with YC Founder Amy Leonard-King, you will work through the channels of the seven main energy centres in the body, known as the chakras. To find balance and connection with each of these portals that give so much meaning and significance to how we are living our life.

Take 10 minutes out of your day to enjoy a 'pause' in the activity of both body and mind. Join Amy Leonard-King as she guides this super effective practice of tuning inwards, bringing awareness to the monkey-mind, and slowing down our reactions, so as to emerge feeling more cool, calm and collected. A great everyday practice to drop into at any time of the day, or whenever you can feel the overwhelm creeping in. Taking an intentional pause and creating new, uplifting practices to breed a calmer, more balanced existence.

Bringing awareness into our centre, through the practices of breathwork and meditation, can have real and profound effects in our overall capacity for healing and increased vitality. Spend just 10 minutes of your precious day with Amy to bring awareness to your centre, your core, and feel the tremendous benefits that stillness, breath and focussed awareness in your core can bring to your sense of grounding, centring and overall health and wellbeing. Try this one daily for a week, and watch the incredible results begin to unfold!

Join Emma for her quick 10 minute Pranayama practice to give your body and mind a super effective and potent refresh. Pranayama, the practice of controlling the life force energy flowing through the body (Prana), often overlooked for it's more famous cousin ~ Asana ~ is an incredibly efficient way to drop in, rejuvenate, and shift any stagnation that might be lurking in the body or the mind. All it takes here is 10 mins, focusing on 3 common and simple breathing techniques, for you to emerge feeling revitalised, focussed and with a whole lot more calm space between the thoughts. Practice any time, anywhere, and enjoy!

15 Minute Classes…

Join Amy as she guides you through a beautiful practice designed to clear some space from a busy mind, creating a sense of ease and peace where there was perhaps overwhelm or excess distraction. Sitting with this for just 15 minutes will have a profound effect on your mind set during what might otherwise feel like a stressful or busy time. It's amazing how much our minds dictate our perception of the world around us, and how we have the power to flip it around in just a few short minutes. A great practice for everyday, any time of day, and those both newer to meditation and more refined in their practice. Enjoy the stillness!

In this episode of YC Insights, Amy guides you through a relaxing 15 minute Yoga Nidra that you can do at anytime, anywhere. This practice will help bring you to the calm side after a busy day or during those times when your mind is over-active and anxiety is setting in. We hope you enjoy!

Join long time devotee of Mantra and all-around Guru Lydia Richards as she guides you through the famous 'Guru Mantra', including an explanation of the meaning behind the mantra, and with the exquisite sounds of the harmonium to support our voices. Let your mind be open, and through this practice, the heart will surely open up. Feel free to pop this on play and just listen, or dust off the voice-box and heart-strings and join in the chanting, a surefire way to immediate lift your mood, spirits, and the all-around 'Bhav' (mood).

Join Lydia to chant together to relieve the busy-ness of the 'monkey mind', through connecting with your inner teacher (Guru), and bowing down to creative wisdom and the divine source. The 'Adi' or 'first' mantra is an invitation to come home to yourself and is a favourite in Kundalini Yoga practices - Ong namo guru dev namo.

Yoga Nidra is a meditation technique that takes one into a deep state of relaxation. It translates as yogic sleep. During this practice you’ll be asked to move your awareness to various body parts were the meridians pathways are located, energetic pathways along which vital energy, qi or prana flows. When we trace the pathways we strengthen the qi flow in the body. At the end of this practice you’ll be asked to awaken your body and your mind up so you can go about your day. Use this time to recharge and replenish, enjoy! I’d like to acknowledge my dear teacher Jo Phee from whom I learnt the technique.

Join Lydia for a short but sweet check-in to mark R U OK?Day. Lydia explores how answering the question “are you okay?” requires the respondent to exercise some self enquiry before answering, rather than the auto-pilot “good thanks”. It also requires a deeper listening on behalf of the person asking. As yogis we can practice these two skills - self-enquiry and authentic listening - both on our mat and in our life.
