Whatever happens, Yoga will enable you to approach the experience from a position of inner power.
— Janet Balakas

This full day immersion with Prenatal trained teacher and Yoga Corner Founder Amy Leonard-King is for Pregnant Mammas + Yoga Teachers wanting to develop a greater understanding as to how yoga can be of value throughout all stages of the journey of motherhood.

Build a greater understanding of this most transformative time in a woman’s life, through the lens of yoga, and gain more confidence in both modifying for pregnancy as well as guiding prenatal yoga classes.

Your time with Amy will give you a strong basis of understanding as to what a specific, tailored prenatal yoga practice looks like, providing a platform from which to develop your knowledge with further studies if you are called to do so.

More and more, especially with the gaining popularity of yoga, as both a physical practice and healing modality, we are seeing doctors referring pregnant women to yoga without there being much understanding as to what kinds of yoga practice might be suitable and beneficial during this precious and unique time.

As a yoga teacher, you are likely to have pregnant women arrive at your general classes without notice…oh the panic! This immersion will give you the confidence to guide women at every stage of their pregnancy through both general classes as well as offering a deeper exploration for how to construct a specific prenatal yoga practice.

Pregnancy is an exciting and extremely sacred journey of transformation and discovery, so too is confidently guiding students who are experiencing what is likely one of the greatest physical and emotional upheavals of their lives.

So, the moment a soon-to-be mamma walks into your class, whether you like it or not you become part of that journey.

Over the course of this immersion, Amy will share with you her extensive knowledge of Prenatal Yoga developed over 8 years of supporting women both during their pregnancy and into the new territory of motherhood, as well as drawing from her own experiences of pregnancy, motherhood and beyonds as a practicing yogi.

You can expect to walk away from this weekend with:

  • A solid understanding of the three trimesters of pregnancy and the resulting changes in the physical body, including the impact of pregnancy-induced hormones

  • Prenatal modifications for most types of yoga postures (twists, folds, backends, standing, seated, inverted etc.)

  • Posture contraindications for the three trimesters of pregnancy

  • How the yoga practices change dramatically during this sacred time and how to create a safe and nurturing orenatal practice

  • Relaxation practices for pregnant women

  • Tips and techniques for supporting pregnant students safely through their practice

This immersion will equip you with the skills and knowledge you require to support yourself through your own journey, and your pregnant students in general classes, as well as possibly inspire you to pursue further education and training if you feel it to be your calling…

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER: AMY LEONARD-KING

AMY LEONARD-KING Director Yoga Corner Melbourne.jpg

Amy is passionate about sharing yoga. Her own experience with the practice was a slow and steady evolution into what is now not only a daily practice, but touches every aspect of her life.

After completing her BCom at Melbourne University and then working a corporate job for 5 years, Amy's wish to create a 'job' that was her passion and life's work lead to taking a first Yoga Teacher Training whilst living abroad in London, and subsequently spending recent years travelling and studying under yoga teachers from different lineages including Hatha, Ashtanga Vinyasa, Anusara, Jivamukti, Yin + Restorative Yoga and Prenatal Yoga both here in Melbourne and all over the world. The Yoga Corner studio is Amy's dream come into reality, and was many years in the making, the creation of a place for people to come and connect back to the truest part of themselves.

Amy is humbled and inspired by the opportunity to share her love and joy of the practices of yoga with anyone willing to take that first step onto the yoga mat. More than exploring the physical practice in her classes and linking awareness of the breath, Amy's passion lies in sharing the deeper philosophy and ancient teachings that take us to a more subtle and profound understanding of ourselves, drawing us closer to our original state of truth, consciousness + bliss. Amy brings a calming presence to her teaching, whilst challenging students both physically and mentally, offering up ways to both ground + find our centre, as well as expand beyond our perceived limitations. She links the ancient practices of yoga with how we can access these ideas in our modern lives.
