Try a delicious โ€˜Pittaโ€™-balancing cucumber salad to help bring your body back into harmony, quelling that inner fire that can sometimes burn too brightly during the summer months. ๐Ÿ’ฆ

During these warm summer months, try to quell some of that excess fire in the body with some cooling, nourishing food. And letโ€™s face it, thereโ€™s nothing more cooling that cucumber! ๐ŸŒฑ

TIMING: To receive the full benefits of this plant-based Ayurvedic dish weโ€™d recommend to eat it between 10am-2pm when โ€˜Pittaโ€™ (fire qualities) are at itโ€™s highest in the body.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cucumbers

  • 1 head of steamed Broccoli trees (lightly steamed + cooled before adding)

  • 1 bunch red radishes

  • 1 bunch of mint

  • 1 avocado

  • 1 lemon

  • 1 teaspoon whole cumin seeds

  • 1/2 Tablespoon of ground rock salt

  • 1/2 Teaspoon maple syrup

Method:

  1. Rinse and chop all of the vegetables into small pieces that are easy to eat

  2. Lightly steam the broccoli trees (so theyโ€™re still nice and green!) and set aside to cool.

  3. Squeeze the juice from the lemon (no seeds please!)

  4. Pan toast the cumin seeds for a few minutes until they become lightly toasted and fragrant. Set a side and cool. Then grind using a mortal and pestle once cooled.

  5. In a blender add: Mint, avocado, lemon juice, salt, and maple syrup with about ยผ cup of water and blend until it resembles a smooth consistency (more water can be added if needed.

  6. Combine the veggies in a large salad bowl with the blended avocado mixture

  7. Sprinkle the toasted ground cumin seeds over the vegetables and mix through.
