AWAKEN THE DIVINE SOUNDS ALREADY WITHIN YOU…
This workshop with our very own Bhakti yogini Lydia Richards is for anyone curious about mantra as a transformational, meditative practice for the heart, mind, body and soul.
This 90min immersion includes an exploration of the foundations of mantra as mind tool for awakening the soul (atman), and the practical application as you immerse in the practice of Kirtan - call and response chanting of Sanskrit mantra from the lineage of Yoga.
You will discover which particular mantras (songs / chants) speak to your soul - you will feel it - alongside deepening guidance as Lydia shares the mythology and meaning behind each mantra shared. These mantras help to awaken the energy of the heart and ultimately supercharge your yoga practice and spiritual journey.
Other topics that will be explored in this immersive experience include:
Mantra in the yogic context, including why we chant Om
The physical and energetic benefits of mantra
Ritualising your mantra practice to enhance daily life
Which yogic gods and goddesses to invoke and when
Tips to open your throat centre and awaken the voice within
You will be introduced to and experience a combination of short and longer form mantras each with their own unique meaning, intention and energy – and all with the shared goal of connecting you with your own cosmic nature and the Divine, universal tapestry being woven in every moment.
Prior mantra, chanting experience or knowledge of the Sanskrit language is not at all required for this workshop, it will be fully guided and interactive.
Your teacher’s personal mantra journey
At the time of completing her first 200-hour teaching training, mantra was something Lydia had decided was going to be “for later”. Focused initially on perfecting the asana of yoga, mantra stayed floating in the background coming to the fore during Jivamukti Yoga classes with Amy right here at Yoga Corner! Nearly five years ago, Lydia took the gigantic leap (Hanuman style) of acquiring a harmonium and since then has integrated mantra into her life as a daily spiritual practice. For Lydia this was a life-changing decision that has subsequently helped her navigate and process profound emotions resulting from enduring great personal loss. As such, Lydia shares deeply from a place of embodiment and regularly shares the Bhakti Yoga practice of devotional chanting in her public classes and via kirtan and sacred sound healings at Yoga Corner. Lydia has also lived and taught yoga abroad which is where she first started sharing kirtan.
